Myanmar is rich in bamboo resources, which is an
important community of forest resources which occupy almost 50% of the country
land area.
In line with the objective of the project, it was organized and
completed four two-week bamboo products processing trainings with cooperation of
Department of Cottage Industries of Ministry of Co-operative in order to fulfill the
project document requirement of increasing the number of community engaged in
forestry related activities and REDD-Plus related livelihood improvement of
villagers within project site.
A meeting on marketing of bamboo products was
organized by the ITTO REDD+ project on 31 May 2014 at Training Centre, 6 mile forests
nursery of Yedashe Township to achieve better cooperation of Traders and bamboo
products producers. It was attended by about(50) participants including project
staff, district staff, traders, small scale enterprises, bamboo products
producers, who got bamboo products processing training organized by the
project.
The meeting was introduction by U Thein Shwe, Assistant Director of Bago
Region Forest Department and the project Director Dr. Thaung Naing Oo of
Planning and Statistics Division of Forest Department Head Quarter. A
tripartite coordination among the bamboo product makers, traders and potential
of enterprises will play a key role in formulating right marketing strategy for
bamboo products for both local market and for penetrating international market.
