ToT training held for improving Extension Capacity in Climate Change and REDD+

Nay Pyi Taw, 21st February --- A Training of Trainers (ToT) for improving Extension Capacity in Climate Change and REDD+ was held at Forest Research Institute, Yezin from 17 to 21 February 2014. The training was jointly organized by Forest Department and International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) as part of the “Capacity building  for developing REDD+ Activities in the context of Sustainable Forest Management Project”.

The Opening Ceremony of the training was attended by H.E U Aye Myint Maung, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry, Senior Officials, Heads of Department and training participants.

The training aims for providing clear knowledge on the basic concept and current status of REDD+ and climate change activities in Myanmar so that the participants can share their knowledge to the public in order to support the implementation of sustainable forest management in Myanmar.

A total of 31 Rangers from Forest Department and Dry Zone Greening Department attended the training. Subjects related to Climate Change and REDD+ including the concept of REDD+, Payment for Ecosystem Services, Carbon Estimation, Maps Reading and the use of GPS, Social and Environmental Safeguards, FPIC etc. were presented by REDD+ Core Unit members.

The Closing Ceremony of the training was held on 21st March, 2014. The closing remarks was delivered by Dr. Nyi Nyi Kyaw, the Director General of the Forest Department. After delivering the closing remark, the training certificates were delivered to each participants.
